11.11.2006 Comincia domani ad Halifax, in Canada, il "Microcredit Global Summit" al quale parteciperanno, tra capi di stato, rappresentanti istituzionali e soggetti attivi nel microcredito, circa 2000 delegati provenienti da più di 100 diversi Paesi. Il Summit sarà l'occasione per discutere i progressi raggiunti e stabilire nuovi obiettivi per il 2015. Il precedente vertice di Washington del 1997 si era posto il traguardo di raggiungere con il microcredito 100 milioni di famiglie entro la fine del 2005. Alla fine del 2004 i dati di 3164 enti di microcredito riportavano la seguente situazione: 92 milioni di clienti, di cui 66 milioni poverissimi e l'83% donne. I dati del 2005 saranno resi noti ad Halifax, quando verranno lanciati i due nuovi obiettivi per il 2015: raggiungere 175 milioni di famiglie, con particolare riguardo alle donne e migliorare le condizioni di vita di 100 milioni delle famiglie più povere spostando il loro reddito sopra la soglia di un dollaro al giorno.
